“Recruitment is a 365-day-a-year job,” said Howe. “It never sleeps and, yes, Dan is in a position of power and privy to a lot of intelligence and information. That’s why it’s a slightly unusual situation.”
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag is set to see vast change above his head. While he insists that he will not be directly involved in the appointment of staff, the Dutchman wants new recruits to be aligned in their vision for the club.
“I think it is very important you are on one page about football philosophy, about football tactics, about the profiles of the players you need in the team so it is very important to have very good communication so you get the right players,” Ten Hag said when asked about potential arrivals within the club’s hierarchy.
“It is one of the most important factors to develop a good team, that you have the right players but also the right characters. That means you have to do the right work and be aligned and it’s a long process to get the right players in.”
