Andrey Rublev booked his spot in the Australian Open quarter-final after coming back to beat Alex de Minaur 6-4 6-7(5) 6-7(4) 6-3 6-0.
In true Rublev fashion, his comeback wasn’t without some drama as the No. 5 seed berated himself and shouted towards his box, releasing some emotion before securing the victory.
Asked what it was like to be inside his head during those moments, Rublev told the crowd: “Better not to be inside my head. I don’t know, it’s like a scary movie. A lot of emotions, ups and downs, better not to be inside my head.”
The 26-year-old will now contest his 10th career Grand Slam quarter-final. He’s never been able to get to the semis and is expecting a tough test against Jannik Sinner.
“We’ll see, Jannik is one more player who had an unreal season last year, already amazing results this year,” he said of his next opponent.
“He beat me last time so I don’t know what to say, looks like I am in trouble. But I don’t know, I’ll just do my best and we’ll see what’s going to happen.”
